Someone Like You
by Roald Dahl
270 pages
Penguin
This is a perfectly delightful collection of short stories by Dahl. It's one of his 'adult' books, which means that it is quite twisted, vicious, disturbing, wicked and sinister. Also hilariously funny, with an excellently clear and fluid prose style. Very highly recommended, and it definitely hurries up my already-existing plan to check out more Dahl, especially the stuff I possibly haven't read yet.
The fascinating thing about this is that I seemed to recognize the first story or two, and I thought I might have read them in an anthology somewhere. Then I kept recognizing stories, kept remembering all the nasty little twists before they happened. So, to my surprise, I have read this book before! And when I was fairly young, too. Quite an interesting experience, like the resurfacing of something that was entirely buried in your subconscious. And I must say this is a twisted, dark, and strange collection of tales--the pieces of the puzzle are coming together, I think this discovery explains a lot ;)
